Spring’s Feature: ettafoto
The question ‘what makes us human?’ is something that Marketa has become entranced with throughout her creative journey. It’s the thing that keeps pulling her back to her creative footing in the world. There is something innately intriguing about photography for all of us. The idea of capturing moments and turning those memories into physical form so that even when our own minds don’t have the capacity to hold onto those moments any longer, we still have a tangible place we can come back to to spark those feelings in us again. Even with this sentimental intrigue in mind, Marketa wants to take you even deeper
into not only the memory of the moments you see blatantly in front of you, but the individuals behind them. Capturing the subtler moments that we can all relate to as humans that tell a unique story of every individual. Memories can often be rooted in community, though individuality grows from the
stories our communities have taught us. Marketa reminds us that what makes us unique isn’t our new hair cut, or change in wardrobe style, but in the stories behind them. The bodies that we live in aren’t what makes us human, it’s the experiences that we have and the feelings we feel deep in our soul that do.
“Being human, we naturally add meaning to life experiences.”
Marketa spoke to me about how she loves using her “rose-colored glasses” to find beauty in everyone and everything. Growing up in the Czech Republic, Marketa reflects on how very fortunate she feels to have been exposed to so many areas of our world and the colorful cultures intricately woven within at a young age. Picking up a camera for the first time and having the power right in your hands to capture something that may one day re-spark that joy in someone, opened Marketa up to a whole new world of possibilities.
